In June 2011, a vision for Models on a Mission: Benefit Fashion Show for Joplin, MO was brought to life by Teisha Marie Barber; raising over $5,000 for the victims of the Joplin, MO tornado. For this event, Teisha engaged Phil Willoughby as an essential part of the planning team. Working together for the first time, they realized a mutual passion and need to fill a fashion void in Kansas City.
Receiving her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies with an emphasis in Interior Design from the University of Missouri- Columbia, Teisha uses this knowledge paired with her experience of the fashion industry and modeling, to bring on the lasting elements to make Kansas City Fashion Week a reality. Her experience and training gave her the necessary edge to bring KCFW front and center as one of Kansas City’s paramount events.
Beginning as KCFW's Executive Director, Teisha quickly moved into the role of president. Embracing the challenges of President, Teisha Barber oversees and orchestrates all production and design of all KCFW shows and events. This includes overseeing sponsorship and partnership negotiations, designer recruitment and selection, model casting and booking, style team and photographer selection, and runway show production.
